Job Title:  CNC Machinist Level II

FLSA Status:  Hourly

Reports to:  Production Supervisor or Operations Manager

Summary of Job:

This level of employment is considered a machine operator (the employee who is self-sufficient).  This employee has the ability to run most any part from a drawing and is also expected to set up his own jobs.  To move to the next level, the skill requirements of that level must be performed consistently and satisfactorily for a period of six months.

The incumbent must possess excellent people skills and have advanced communication skills.  Must communicate effectively with all employee and management levels, especially the production supervisor and Quality Control.

This position is responsible for shop production, general shopkeeping duties, preventive maintenance programs, contributing to the effectiveness of the quality program, and other duties as assigned.  Must be able to work with no supervision.

Key Results & Duties:

  1. General Shopkeeping
    • Demonstrates basic cleanliness skills. Keeps machine and floor around machine clean when finished with job and at the end of shift.
    • Shows cooperation in overall shop housekeeping.
  2. Technical Knowledge
    • Must possess all knowledge of the previous level.
    • Must possess the ability to operate and perform tooling setups on equipment. Must know what tooling, fixtures and offsets to use and be able to set them up properly.
    • Must be able to read and comprehend CNC programs, and to make small program changes.
    • Must be able to upload and download CNC programs from disk.
    • Must be able to work in tolerances of 0”.
    • Must be able to produce to the QC department at the end of the job run a cart separated by parts acceptability. The cart should be separated by GOOD or BAD.  Rework parts should have been reworked.  The QC department should not need to reject any of the sorted good parts.  Can do some offsets, program changes and setups.
  3. Quality System Procedures
    • Must understand complete quality system and what it is trying to achieve. Must be able to comprehend and effectively use all applicable forms and paperwork.  Should know where forms go when completed and what happens next in the paperwork process.
    • Must be able to use and read all QC measuring devices.
  4. Administrative / Training / Safety
    • Participates in training classes and schools offered by the employer.
    • Uses appropriate safety gear.
    • This employee must work well as part of the team and be dedicated to the success of the whole team.
    • This employee will begin to assist management in training lower-level employees.
  5.   Able to work around noise, chemicals, fumes, and dust.
    • Capable of using respirators and other personal protective equipment including hearing protection if required.  Able to work in non-climate-controlled work areas and outside if needed.
    • Lifting in excess of forty (40) pounds may be required.
    • Able to twist/bend (neck and waist) and stoop.
    • Able to work in an awkward position as required. Able to squat/kneel/crawl/reach as required.

Basic Qualifications:

Must have experience in the following job skills:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of related experience or may need 2 years’ experience with additional specialized training or certification.
  • Must have good computer skills
